Prevent Dengue: 5 Plants That Will Help You Keep Mosquitoes Away

With the onset of monsoons, the fear of mosquito borne infections always remains a major health concern. While there are mosquito repellents available in the market that might be effective, chances are they contain harmful chemicals. What if there was a natural way to ward off mosquitoes? Mosquitoes are drawn to the scent of humans. In case this scent can be blocked off by another stronger scent, mosquitoes will not invade you. This is the logic behind using certain plants to ward off mosquitoes.

Given below are some common plants that can be grown for not only enhancing the beauty of your house but also to keep your surroundings mosquito free:

1 . Marigold

-Marigold flowers also called Gende ke phool are orange and yellow flowers and are an integral part of auspicious occasions in India.

-The marigold plant has a distinct smell that keeps mosquitoes and other insects away.

-This is mainly due to the compound called pyrethrum which is also found in certain insect repellents.

-Easy to grow and maintain, you can grow them in your garden or in pots.

-The many benefits of lavender oil in relieving stress and improving circulation are well known.

-The sweet lavender aroma that is highly sought after for perfumes is what repels mosquitoes.

-Even though it is widely grown in Europe, it can be grown in India too with little care.

-It can be grown indoors in pots with well-drained soil.

Add these plants to your home, balcony or garden to keep those pesky mosquitoes away in a natural away apart from also adding beauty to your surroundings. All the plants mentioned above require minimum care –just enough sunlight, daily watering and the occasional fertilizer should be enough.
