100 days / short-term agenda - Income Tax Reforms

Most people are talking about IT rates. In my opinion, that is NOT a major issue. The major issue would be the utilisation / mis-utilisation of the entire IT department and its paraphernalia - presently, they are focussing on improving tax collections from the salaried people, where as the focus should be on how those other than salaried can be brought within the tax net thereby truly increasing Government's revenues!
Salaried people are already within a very well established system - taxes due from them are deducted even before the salary reaches their hands. The IT Department really has got no job going after this set of people. In fact, (i) entire resources of the IT Department are wasted in this process (ii) additional revenue collected, if any, does not cover even a minuscule percentage of the salaries paid to them (iii) this misplaced focus causes undue harassment to those who have paid their taxes.
IT Reforms should focus on policy reforms to shift focus of the IT Department and its paraphernalia on those who are actually evading tax or making efforts to evade tax! Experts can better comment on who constitute this set of people. more

It is right that govt servants pay tax as per their salary but hat is not due to honesty but complustion. the sould know that the private person, is not paying tax due to them only. If the govt servant is honest no one else can be dishonest. more
We should move to become income tax free country. This cannot be done at one shot but atleast this government must take the initial baby steps. Currently we salaried people end up paying double the tax, one on our income and the other tax on the products and services we buy. more
Probably we should look at countries which are transparent, how they made the nonsalaried class to pay for the taxes. It is important to target those who are deliberately avoiding taxes for the development of the nation. more
i feel no doctor or advocates are paying tax more
There should be tax reforms too many taxes collected by too many agencies all going to keep the babus on payroll I am sure our finance minister knows the answer more
