Railway Minister
Lacs of passengers use daily our railway facilities. For boarding of trains, they wait on railway platform for more than 10 minutes or so. Similarly is the situation at public and private bus stands also.
In order to use their time productively and guide them on various national issues, it is proposed to run animated film on many subjects which need public awareness , on the various TV's installed at the railway stations at multiple locations. These animated movies may be on many themes
1. How to use toilets in the train.
2. How to keep compartment clean
3. Where to throw water bottles, paper tea cups, polythene bags etc.
4. Where to spit and guide them not to chew pan, pan masala, gutka etc.
This list may be improved slowly.
Thanks

1. For such an important issue that is crying need for India, we have been soft-pedaling and molly-coddling the so called literate but still uneducated masses of our country for MORE THAN SEVEN DECADES AS AN INDEPENDENT NATION!!
2. It has Not worked, it will Not work- unless we have harsh penalties and quick dispersal of justice, may be on the spot delivery, ALONG WITH THE PROPER EDUCATION AND ACCOUNTABILITY OF AUTHORITIES AND THE CITIZENS TOO.
3. We have too many rules and regulations but No/Weak will and poor where-withal to implement them.
4. Generations have passed breaking/ignoring the rules required for a clean and good society. When elders have been getting away with such boorish behavior/attitude, poor character, unhygienic habits, no love or respect for country's resources... the list is endless, what will the children learn? See around yourself! If one points out somebody against littering around, smoking in public places, spitting.. etc etc.., you can imagine the reaction of most of these idiots.
5. So unless the education is backed by harsh but quick penalties, without any scope for corruption coming in form of bribery of the enforcers, people are not going to fall in line. more

In India, People are literate but not educated. Any violation has to be combined with punishment such as fine etc, then only this can be implemented. Classic example is the people throwing stones at new Vande Mantram driverless train because of which fault developed & stopped. How can we stop people from throwing stones on the train? Unless & until every Indian thinks that the public property is our property & we pay taxes for that, ANY AMOUNT OF SIGNAGES MAY NOT HELP. more

Somehow, these unhygienic and unclean habits have become a part of our culture, and these people consider their right. It is indeed hard to find people spitting on the roads even the third world countries. Adults are not babies to train and educate them. Moreover, the same adults from India behave perfectly well and go by the rule book when they leave the shores of India.Nobody need guide them there, because they know the penalty involved for defying the laws.
The training , if any, should start at the grass root level. I have been stressing in several letters to the authorities concerned, to start this education on a priority basis in all schools and educational educations across the country.
can't the Government engage the services of our sports and Filmy icons, who are making millions of rupees advertising for all the wrong food habits , on television. This is a very powerful medium and reaches the homes of the poorest of the poor, and we can vividly portray with graphics all the ills attached to spitting, and other unclean habits, we would have attained a lot. After all, a journey of a thousand miles has to commence with a single step. more

6. And the same 'idiots' behave very well when in other countries because they are under camera surveillance and have fear of being caught and paying heavy fines. I have seen it myself and felt amused/disgusted with attitudes of such hypocrites. more

No doubt idea is good but very few people read such ads and most of the people these days are busy in their mobiles while waiting. Children are the most impressionable minds. So it is necessary to expose them to this sense of civic necessities from the early childhood not only at home but in school as well.A systematic approach to this is needed at the school levels. Children should be encouraged to participate in such activities on daily basis in a routine matter.
I remember 50-60 years ago we were exposed to such activities in schools which got deeply embedded in our minds to the extent that we do it without any special effort on our part in our life.. With the passage of time these teachings have vanished from schools as character building of children has taken a back seat in the businesslike environment prevailing in the education system. It is never late to make a beginning and government and private educational institutions should come forward in the interest of children, society and our country. If need be, in this regard a separate subject be introduced passing of which may be made compulsory.. Each one of us need to make our contribution in the matter as it is also our duty as well as that of the authorities to propound these ideals. more

Yes But that does not mean that we should not follow useful ideas. The Government is also advertising various activities being undertaken at public places. So this can also take place. At least some people will read and improve. more
