Conductors in Volvo Buses run by West Bengal State Transport Company are making money like anything by taking half of the statute fares from commuters in understanding of not giving tickets, and this practice is going on rampantly. Sometimes, Intentionally, conductors do not move inside the bus to collect fares so that commuters do not ask for ticket in exchange of fares in a hurry at the time of getting down from the bus at their respective destination. Inspectors are hardly found checking tickets from commuters or keeping vigilance over the conductors. We are grateful to the state government for plying Volvo buses in Kolkata. It is a boon to Kolkata commuters, particularly in summer season. But, we apprehend how long WBSTC will be able to ply if revenue cakes are eaten by coductors and drivers this way.

The Salt Lake City and other areas of Kolkata have poor uneven roads. The road repair takes months and the construction materials are kept blocking the traffic movements. After digging up the road for repair of some services, the roads are kept unrepaired for months craeting traffic chaos. Metro railway or fly over constuctions take years, the concerned roads remain in dilapadated state during the entire period, traffic movements are fully compromised.
Buses and autos stop any where and everywhere to pick up or drop passengers causing sudden stoppage of traffic. Autos and Buses remain parked on roads and corners seriuosly affecting the traffic on exisiting wide roads.
Lane discipline is non existent and not enforced. Unnecessary honking is widespread. Use of mobile phones while driving is rampant.
Footpaths are occupied by vendors/garbage/or non existent, making pedestrians to walk on the road and creating driving hazard all over. Yet, no actiuon taken for decades.
