Now that the first step in garbage collection has been achieved, a couple of more things need to be done:
1. Definite time for collection in a particular area - garbage collection vehicles arrive at different times of the day. With a number of families having both partners working & the increasing number of people who live alone, this creates problems of garbage disposal, as one can't sit at home all day to wait for the collection truck to arrive. Garbage piles up in a particular house almost throughout the week, leading to unhygienic conditions in the house, since local disposal sites that existed earlier have been shut down.
It is essential for the vehicles to have set timings for collection. In case the vehicles are to arrive in the middle of the day, there should be an arrangement where the families can leave their garbage bins/bags outside & the workers in the garbage collection vehicles should get out and dump the said garbage in the van, rather than leaving it around for it to rot and create unhygienic conditions in the area. At the moment workers sitting in the vehicle don't even get out of the vehicle.

2. Arrangements now need to be made for Segregation of waste at source and segregated collection of the waste. Even when individual families segregate their waste at source, the collectors are collecting it all as one. Result is that despite not wanting to dump biodegradable and non-biodegradable material together, one is forced to do so.
Different coloured bins need to be placed in public areas as well, with pictures of what should go in each bin, so that people can develop the sense of segregation.

3. From the pov of management of the segregated waste, the municipal trenching ground needs to be prepared according to scientific specifications and the collected waste dumped in the right areas/sections.

Need many more improvement, but yes the work has been started,

Indore which is 14th or 15th largest City in India there is, in fact ,no infra-structure to deal with the system of garbage collection and disposal. Effective disposal of the garbage from 100 or 200 hundred places by the Municipal Council out of several thousand places cannot be construed as effective cleaning. The garbage is collected only once in a week that too partially from most of the places. Garbage, or leftover part, is spread in the vicinity by Pigs or Rag Pickers or gales which is a far bigger nuisance. The illegal colonies have increased the problems many fold because non-existent infrastructure, with large concentration of population of these illegal settlements, increase the load on nearby colonies who may be having little infrastructure just sufficient for them only.

The cleaner comes only two or three days in a month for cleaning but always comes in first week of month and on festivals to collect money.
