August 12, 2020, New Delhi: COVID-19 is changing the way Indians do a lot of things starting with how they shop for their needs. Every year in August, many ecommerce platforms announce various sales to woo their customers. This year’s sales have become all the more important to the consumers since many since March have gotten into the habit of ordering what they need via ecommerce platforms, keeping themselves safe from COVID-19.

LocalCircles closely tracks Indian consumers behaviour via its Mood of the Consumer survey and various other surveys. To get a pulse of how many Indian consumers shopped during these sales and how much did they spend and the primary reasons for shopping, LocalCircles conducted a consumer survey. The survey received over 17,000 responses from 211 districts of India.

In the first question, ecommerce consumers were asked how much they spent in the recent sales held by Amazon and Flipkart from August 6th onwards. 7% said they spent over Rs. 10,000 while 20% said they spent between Rs. 1000 and 10,000. Another 7% said they spent up to Rs. 1000 while 36% said they browsed through the sale but did not shop. 30% said they did not even visit the sites.
