Ways to slash electricity bill

The ongoing hue and cry over subsidised electricity to be delivered on behalf of AAP party, needs diagnosis from different point of view, which no one has given any attention.

First of all stand of BSES should be considered before any dictation. The supply of power and the expected corresponding revenue should be audited first.

Secondly, there should be massive check for power theft. Heavy penalty should be imposed for every case. Corruption in public to be dealt first. There are number of cases of power theft. There should be thorough drive to check every unit of electricity consumed. Also many a times domestic power is used for non-domestic purposes. This may be checked.

Thirdly, it must be understood that large number of consumers are tenants and are helpless against the inflated charges of electricity by their respective landlords based on the private submeters for each tenant. Presently landlords charge six to eight rupees per unit, against Rs 3.90 per unit, based on private meter that too fast running meters. Therefore, first of all guidelines should be issued for landlords for charging the tenants according to the actual BSES rate in the corresponding bill and not on whim and fancy. BSES can supply additional sub meters for each floor occupied by tenants, without giving new connection additionally. This will generate revenue for BSES by selling additional meters massively. Private meters should not be allowed. Even if installed it should be inspected by BSES for any fault. Also rule for not giving any floor on rent without separate BSES meter or sub meter installed by BSES. This will surely bring down the electricity charges for tenants. This needs changes in Rent Agreement Acts. more

Dear Chakresh, it was in my attempt to address you that I suddenly had server blockages and my messages could not go through (read above). However, I do hope that this note reaches you; I am only looking for some illustrations from you:

In your note of January 13 you speak about ........1. fixed chgs, 2. power purchase adjustment charges, 3. time of day charges, 4. 8% energy surcharge, 5. 5.38 Elec tax, which comes to Rs 7.754 per unit after initial 400 units.

I would like to know what these items are and how to understand their meaning. Does the figure of Rs.7.754 represent all the five points mentioned above? And why this figure with three digits after the comma!. Must one calculate "sooooooo" accurately?

Looking forward to your response....thanks! more
In the present day Roof top Solar System, Inverter does not store power. My knowledge is Inverter is the Power Control Unit (PUC) in the solar system converting DC produced by several Solar Modules to AC power. Inverter is matched with the power produced by the module. Having a very large capacity Inverter may not serve any purposeIt is the Battery which stores the power for use at time (at night) when Solar power is not producedHow long the new research will take is any one aware of??P K Mathur

Best way to fully utilise the solar panels on the roof is to install a large sized inverter and allow the solar panels to charge the inverters which can run the house. Invertor support equivalent to the house requirement with the solar panels is a preretirement. And it spays back. Instead of paying BSES store your own power.
There is research going on to capture sunlight int a battery from where you can get the sunlight back as and when you desire. If successful, it would be the next generation solar power use for lighting the homes. more
