Atrocious electricity bill

I was shocked to receive electric bill for Rs. 5,500/- last week, even though the premises remained locked up for two months without any electricity applince working.

Then I learnt several people have similar experience.

One poor house maid with two bulbs and one fan in her one room apartment got a bill for around Rs. 3300/- last week.

When a complaint was made to the local electricity office, it was replied that they have been charging only on the basis of meter reading and it is a digital meter.

Every one now suspect whether it is a deliberate move to increase the revenue of electricity Board.

If this is so , it is condemnable. The Chairman of the Electricity Board need to explain to protect the credibility of the department

I agree with NSV sir. I received a bill for Rs 6000. They have not deducted the amount paid by me in April. I raised a complaint in their website to TNEB more
The Electricity Board should take up the complaints seriously. Definitely people collectively more reliable than any "digital meters". more
It is mere foolishness to claim that DIGITAL meters are accurate as per TNEB. Digital meters are more prone for DEFECTS and a meter can show many timews the actual usage when defective. The TNEB has a responsibility to check such meters and RECTIFYor REPLACE them. The EB consumers are taken for granted by authorities and with the FULL KNOWLEDGE of the TNEB heirarchy only SUCH DAY LIGHT ROBBERY is executed. more
In a grave situation like the present one, the EB officials must be more careful and avoid harassing the consumers. Hope this anomaly reaches the notice of the Electricity Minister. more
Sir, EB Minister him self said during lockdown consumers urilised maximum comsumed electricity. No use of Ministers of TN govt. more
It is indeed to safe guard the electricity board which is making losses consistently because of politicians free bees and announcements prior to elections. Delhi and Mumbai distribution and revenue management thereof is in private hands. So safeguarding of profitability will be there. Also being very essential part of day to day life of everybody, private owners cannot increase rates arbitrarly. Govt / Court will always will interfere. So change in set up is needed to make life of common man better. Political system should change so that politicians / ministers should honestly endeavour to see that their present day act should not affect the shape of economy of thecountry tomorrow.
