No roof on major part of the platforms at Chiplun and other railway stations of KR

When I visited my sister at Chiplun on the eve of Diwali , it was observed by me that entire length of the platforms at Chiplun railway station was not covered. This has been resulting in severe hardships to the passengers during torrential rain and scorching heat. In this connection I had called for information under the Right to Information Act 2005 seeking reason for not providing covering on the entire length and breadth of the platforms at Chiplun and other railway stations of the Konkan Railway. In this connection the criteria laid down by the Railway Board is very ridiculous. Three types of covering is provided on the platforms as per the criteria laid down by the Railway Board. 1) Conventional Shelter --This type of roof covers larger area of the platform. Chiplun railway station has two platforms each of 558meter in length and 10 meter in breadth. Platform No 1 has a) Conventional Shelter 76meter in length and 9 meter in breadth b,) 3 Nos of Quota Shelters which are 6meters in length and 3 meters in width ,C) 13. Nos of Modular Shelters each 6 meters long and 5 meters wide . Out of 558 meters length only 172 meters length of the platform No 1 is covered thereby resulting in severe hardships to the passengers during torrential rain and scorching heat.
In case of Platform No 2, out of 558meter length only 152 meter length is covered.
It is shocking that despite lapse of over 25 years since passenger service from Chiplun railway station has commenced, people's elected representatives have not felt it necessary to alleviate the hardships faced by the passengers from various destinations of the Konkan Railway .The Elected Representatives of the People could have done the work of providing roof over platforms at Chiplun and other railway stations of the Konkan Railway out of the funds allocated to them for work in their constituencies.
