LocalCircles Impact: Govt makes HFSS disclosure mandatory

The link below has a summary of your inputs on reducing consumption of High Fat, Sugar and Salt foods from 2017.

http://bit.ly/citizenpulse-hfss

The same was shared with FSSAI in 2017 demanding they act and the same has been accepted in phases. Steps are being taken to levy higher taxes on HFSS foods and also high sugar foods will now be required to carry special marking. Kindly review and share any other ideas you have that will lead to increase in consumption of healthy foods and reduce high sugar, salt and fatty foods from the Indian diet.

We will be again taking this up with FSSAI so the implementation and enforcement is done effectively.

We look forward to your inputs! more

There are always 2 distinct ways to look at solutions for anything -

One is top-down approach as it has been rightly initiated with HFSS MARKING AND MAY BE COLOR CODE FOR THE SAME so that customers are informed of these foods

Now a bottom-up approach would be for organizations and colleges, their restaurants and cafeterias to NOT STOCK UP AND SELL such HFSS MARKED PRODUCTS. Also, if required, as a measure to dissuade companies from manufacturing such products, an extra levy can be slapped on such products over a period of time! A small nominal levy but nevertheless enough pinch so as to change the formulation of ingredients that go into the manufacture of such products.

This would also be an effective measure for parents to not pack such HFSS PRODUCTS AS SNACKS FOR KIDS WHICH IS WHAT IS CAUSING INFANT DIABETES AND OBESITY AND OTHER ILLNESSES AT SUCH AN YOUNG AGE, WHICH WAS NEVER HEARD BEFORE!!!!! more
Banning of the products on the school canteens and advertisements near schools of junk food aswas done on US schools . more
Happy to note the progress and ideas that will lead to increase in consumption of healthy foods and reduce high sugar, salt and fatty foods from the Indian diet. more
