Knee transplant for 85 yrs old
My father aged 85 yrs retired rly. employee. He is suffering from acute osteo arthritis. In 2012 he had surgery of prostate but it fails after 4 years. He relapsed again but due to this, the pain in his both knees become very high. He is taking the medicine of prostate with calcium and glusomine etc. for knee. But the situation are remain same. He is walking very slowly by help of stick. When he consulted to a doctor of a reupted hospital, he suggested that he can not prescribe him for knee replacement in this age. Because mostly it seems to be in this age the external elements does not consensus with the internal parts of the body. It may also cause of failure of knee transplant. He also suggested for fluid / stem cells injections in knee in 3 steps. which can be effected to walk and reduce the pain for the 2 years. But the cost of the injections would be approx. 20,000/- each out of the 3. Kindly, suggest if any Orthopedic Surgeon is here. more

In my opinion, what your doctor has suggested regarding surgery, is right. However, you can have second opinion regarding injection. If at all you decide for surgery, please ensure that Doctor has right attitude towards the patient considering his age. I had got 01 knee replaced for my mother from Medanta through a unit headed by Dr. Ashok Rajgopal, hospital as well as Doctor, both renowned, but I am regretting it now. more
